From London to Bordeaux, our two lovers Elizabeth & James chose to celebrate their British wedding at Château Gassies. Without further ado, discover the story and photos of this sunny, warm and romantic day with a hint of a British accent.
Organizing a British wedding in Gironde
The South West of France, and the Gironde more particularly, is a region that the British are distinctly fond of. The “French art de vivre” from the South West, our green and extensive countryside as well as our heritage and gastronomy have attracted foreigners for years.
Whether it be in or around Bordeaux, it is mainly the wine estates that Elizabeth and James wished to discover.
Organizing this British wedding at Chateau Gassies for the bride and groom and their families was a real pleasure and honor. To be honest, it wasn’t difficult for me to defend my region because even though the couple are British and live in London, the bride has Bordeaux roots 😉 As a matter of fact, some of her relatives live here, which made arranging accommodation easier for families.
Chateau Gassies is a wedding venue that you often see here on my blog, simply because it is one of the most beautiful estates in the Gironde to celebrate a wedding.
The location of the estate, its size, its facilities, its wedding dining room and its panoramic view make it an ideal place for secular ceremonies, cocktail parties, wedding meals and short stays after the wedding.
The elegant and romantic atmosphere of Elizabeth & James’ British wedding
The wedding of our two British lovebirds at Château Gassies perfectly reflected the right balance between the Bordeaux and British way of life.
Elizabeth & James’ recipe for happiness consists of: softness, warmth, romance, elegance, chic and nature.
Despite the difficulties caused by the sanitary situation in 2021, the bride and groom still wanted to gather some of their relatives and friends to celebrate this moment of love with them. It was very important for Elizabeth and James to come to France, to Gironde, to be in communion with their loved ones and the region, which is so dear to Elizabeth.
Dandy & Chic Destination Wedding at Château Gassies
A radiant weather worthy of an Indian summer accompanied us throughout the wedding day. A beautiful sunshine marked the occasion, which made the atmosphere both warm and festive.
Elizabeth and James love bubbles, so they generously served good champagne at different moments of the day, whether it be during the wedding preparations or during the cocktail party on the terrace of Château Gassies at the end of the day. During the tasting of their wedding cake, a champagne fountain was available for all guests. Yes, the British do love red wine, but champagne is also sacred in their country!
Wedding customs across the Channel: when guests take out their best feathers to pay tribute to the bride and groom
Speaking of tradition, did you know that wedding guests also have their moment of glory? Indeed, throughout the entire celebration, relatives were listened to with attention by the bride and groom and the rest of the assembly. Speeches at British weddings are very much expected and appreciated, even at a destination wedding.
In fact, it was the bride’s brother who officiated the lay ceremony in the park under the beautiful oak tree of Château Gassies and the floral arch of our artist, LP Floral. It was a very touching moment.
For the elegant and classy touch, the ceremony and the cocktail were accompanied by a violinist which created a soft and relaxed atmosphere, where the bride and groom were surrounded by their loved ones.
The end of the wedding evening was a time for celebration and dancing in a “lounge and romance” area of the sumptuous Château Gassies reception hall.
Elizabeth & James’ wedding was a delicious mix of tradition, chic and human warmth. Thank you both for this sweet moment.
